Launching a custom-built satellite for NEOM, Overview Effect NEOM and Satellite Alpha create an intimate connection to the vast beauty of our universe. The piece is unprecedented, using the world’s first active satellite dedicated exclusively to art to activate the largest light sculpture on Earth.
The satellite will be launched into low-Earth-orbit, crossing the 170km-long path of The Line.
Installed along this path are 170 pairs of solar-powered lights aimed into the night sky.
As the satellite orbits the Earth, the lights illuminate as the satellite silently races through the night sky, creating a direct connection between the individual and our vast cosmos.
Satellite: A dedicated satellite for NEOM—passing over the region every 90 minutes at 22,000 kph—would be used for interactive lighting, kinetic sculpture, generative music, educational explorations, and functional purposes (e.g. bird migration tracking, construction progress, photo surveys, etc.).
Special thanks to NASA, SpaceX, and our Orbital Transport Vehicle teams.
